Thunder Bay Symphony: New works, vocal looping & symphony in surround

Tonight I perform with Thunder Bay, conducted by Paul Haas. Two days ago we recorded the orchestra performing sections of Gabrieli’s “Sonata Octavi Toni” as well as samples from the rest of the concert. Tonight we turn the hall into St. Mark’s Basilica — times 5. Gabrieli intended his piece for dueling balconies so we took it another step with 5 speakers surrounding the audience plus the symphony on stage. The audience swims in sound and I’ve found that triggering samples in 5D is a delightful challenge. Listen for some Paul Fowler premieres, a Paul Haas piece, and an amazing tabla concerto amongst works by Jonny Greenwood and Paul McCartney.

AND… I’m performing “Calling” with orchestral accompaniment.
